Mite (formerly U8) birthdates 6/1/13 - 5/31/15

Playing Mini-Mites / Mites:

What is different?

  • Coaches will have received USA Hockey training / certifications.
  • Players are required to register with USA Hockey which provides insurance for injuries.
  • Helmets must have a HECC sticker that has not expired. (New helmets may be purchased for $41 from OYHA.
  • There will not be 2 sessions - only 1 session beginning the end of October through the first weekend of March.
  • Mite parents will be required to do DIBs hours or make a donation to the program. DIBs hours can be completed by working in the OYHA Concession stand, working meat raffles or BINGO at our local gambling sites. (Mini-Mite parents will not be asked to complete DIBs hours.)

What is similar to Park and Rec Hockey?

  • Depending on the age - players will skate most weeks on Wednesdays, Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons.
  • OYHA will provide most equipment for a nominal fee.
  • Players will need to provide their own sticks and skates. (Skates are available to lease from Straight River Sports.)

Will my player be playing travelling hockey?

  • No, we do not currently have plans to have players play in travelling games with other communities. (It may be possible to do a few travelling games in January / February for those who would be interested in participating. Additional fees may apply for those choosing to play in travelling games to cover ice expenses, and referees.)

What do I do with the equipment I have from last year which is now too small for my player?

  • Contact Mikel Akers to make arrangements to get new, exchange equipment or return previously used.
