PeeWee A District Tournament Shifts

PeeWee C Parents please see Tami for signing up for game volunteer time for Friday 2/17 @ 7:50pm (2shifts available) and Sunday 2/19 @ 1:50pm (5 shifts available). These shifts are required and will finish up our volunteer time for the year. The other option is in March so let's get it done.

Thank all of you for helping out.

Concussion

One of our players recently suffered a concussion in a game at the Dodge County Tournament. Our thoughts are with him and we hope he fully recovers soon. The level of concussion is yet to be determined. Hockey has to take a back seat to the health of our players . Owatonna PeeWee C team will follow the USA hockey recommendations and appreciates the support of family, players and coaches in following this as well.

Hockey stick flex

The flex of your hockey stick is very important. PeeWees should be around a 50 flex.

Hockey stick lie

The lie of your hockey stick blade can make your control of the puck and your shot better.

Honoring the Game

  • Opponents
Value and recognize that a worthy opponent brings out our best, and we take a “fierce and friendly” attitude into competition.
  • Officials
We respect officials even when we disagree with them.
  • Teamates
We never do anything to embarrass our team (on or off the ice).
  • Self
We live up to our standards of Honoring the Game, even when others don’t.
  • Rules                                                                                                                                          We refuse to bend/break the rules to win.

Tips for young hockey players

  1.  Skate, skate, and skate some more (moorehouse).
  2. Cut a wooden dowel or a section of a broken hockey stick to about 12-14". Tie a heavy string or thin rope (3-4') to the center of the dowel. On the other end of the string tie a 2-5 lb weight. With your arms straight out in front of you, roll your hands forward until the weight is all the way up to the dowel. Now roll your hands toward your body to lower the weight back down. This will strengthen your forearms in no time.
  3. Use a weighted puck or duct tape two pucks together. Shoot, shoot and shoot some more. I used to do this in the summer down at the tennis court and shoot at the chain link fence.
  4. Push ups and sit ups all that you can every night before you go to bed.
