Coaches

Coaching Certification Requirements

To complete the coaching requirements you will need to visit 3 different websites: USA Hockey, MN Hockey, and the CDC. (Follow links below)

1. USA Hockey. Click here for links to the following steps:

  • USA Hockey Coach Registration (required before going on the ice with players)
  • Level 1-4 or continuing education hours Certification Clinic. (Must be done by Dec. 31st)
  • CEP Age-Specific Modules  (required before going on the ice with players)
  • SafeSport Certification *Please allow 2 hours to complete this training for the first time - refresher training takes about 30-45 minutes and can be done for 3 years following the initial core training.  (required before going on the ice with players)

2. MN Hockey background check. * You will need your USA Hockey Coach # to complete. See MN Hockey Background Screening below for more information. (Completed every other season.)

3. CDC. Concussion Training (Needs to be completed EACH YEAR - certificate and form must be submitted to registrar upon completion). See CDC Heads Up for Coaches concussion training below for more information.

4. W-9 form. This must be filled out every year to be paid.

USA HOCKEY

Coaches must first register with USA Hockey BEFORE doing the MN Hockey background screening or the SafeSport Certification.

Minnesota Hockey Background Screening

Coaches, after completing the background screening online, please forward the confirmation email you receive to oyharegistrar@gmail.com so OYHA knows you've completed the screening. OYHA does not receive a copy of the confirmation otherwise. Please note, you only need to complete the background screening every other year. If you coached and completed the screening in 2019-20, you should not need to complete the screening in 2020-2021.

CDC Heads Up for Coaches - Concussion Training

CDC page that includes Heads Up concussion training for coaches, fact sheet, action plan, clipboard sheet, etc. If you need to complete a module, this training is automatically included as a part of the module.
