Baseline Tests offered free of charge.

Due to a generous donation from Federated Insurance last year, we are able to provide baseline concussion testing free of charge to OYHA players in 6th grade and up.  Last year, all of our 12U's, Peewees, and Bantams were a part of the baseline testing.  Now we want to extend this opportunity to all of the new Peewee's and 12U's.  We are also testing any players in 12U, 14U, Peewee and Bantams that were missed last year or that need a new baseline due to a concussion during the last year.

The baseline test is called ImPACT, and information can be found at: www.impacttest.com.  Please understand that ImPACT is not a diagnostic tool, nor is it the only resource used after a concussion.  The ImPACT baseline test is not an intelligence test.  The baseline is a cognitive test and measures the speed and accuracy that the player answers several puzzle-type questions.  It establishes the 'norm' for that player.

The test process takes between 45-60 minutes.  The test is administered in the OHS Media Center by the high school athletic trainer, TC.  The baseline test is good for two years.  The test won't need to be repeated during those two years unless the athlete gets a concussion.

While the ImPACT Baseline test is not required by OYHA, it is certainly recommended.  We have scheduled teams for test dates during the next week; players that took the test last year do not need to attend.
