OYHA BOARD MEETING MINUTES

FEBRUARY 21, 2007

Four Seasons

 

Members Present: Gwen Lysne, Greg Johnson, Doug Voss, Terry Thompson, Shawn Pfieffer, Lisa Cochran, Sara Wencl, Jay Staska, Steve Cochran, Kirk Kiel, Dan Appel, Steve Martin and Julee Elstad.

 

Members Absent: Nikki Gieseke

 

Guest: Amy Shornock, Ann Paulson, Sherry Anderson, Tony Holcomb, Deb Mandt, Will Fish and Mas Fukushima Starman Family.

Lisa Cochran make a motion to accept the January OYHA Board meeting Minutes, Shawn Pfieffer seconded.  Approved.

 

Mas Fukushima presented into about Summer Hockey Camp it will 2 full weeks it will be easier on coaches coming from out of town.  He was not asking for any money he wants the camp to start paying for itself.  He suggested that we could offer vouchers if we wanted.  There was 88 kids in this camp in 2006.

 

Starman family  presented OYHA with a check in memory of their father who passed away and loved the sport of hockey.  They are letting us decide what to do with the money just to let them know what we used it for.

 

Tony Holcomb presented info about a girls Summer Hockey Camp he was offering he also was not asking for money but suggested a voucher.  His camp will be longer with on ice, dry land and mental training.  He has lots of different coaches lined up to attend.

 

Connie Kniefel presented the positive response from the MSU games and the Skate with the Huskies.  MSU is considering coming for one game next year maybe a pregame at the beginning of the year.  Skate with the Huskies had a good turnout.  Cost for the hats, ,posters, pizza water and ice was $834.62 split between OYHA and OYGA.

 

GAMBLING REPORT

 

Ann Paulson was there to introduce her replacement, Sherry Anderson will be taking over when seminar and testing is complete.  Sherry comes with lots of experience and is willing to give 2 year commitment.  Ann also mentioned that the old customers are back at Webers.

 

Steve motioned to approve January Gambling Report.  Jay Staska Seconded.  Approved.


 

 

Ann noted that we needed to add travel and hotel expense to March Gambling expenses  approx $200-$300 for Sherry attending gambling classes.

 

Greg Johnson made an amendment adding the following expenses to the March gambling report.

*$250-$300 to Ann to pay Sherry at Bubba’s for selling pull tabs at the ice golf and bar golf.

*$200-$400 to Sherry Anderson for hours worked during March.

 

Lisa Cochran made a motion to pre-approve March and Dan Appel seconded.  Approved.      

 

 

Lisa Cochran made a motion to approve the 2004-2005 Charitable Organization Annual Report.  Shawn Pfieffer seconded.  Approved.

 

Ann updated us on the Micheal Birk case, as far as we know this will have no effect on OYHA.

 

Treasurer’s Report- Greg Johnson said we have money in the bank we are in a good position and on track.  We have budgeted $12,000 for summer ice.  Last year we spent about $100 per kid.  September thru January we reached our next level of pricing for ice and saved $1000.

 

Steve Martin made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report.  Julee Elstad seconded.  Approved.

 

COMMITTEE UPDATES

 

Concessions-Steve Martin presented the website is running good and the old candy was taken care of.  FBO archery club asked to use our sink and freezer we told them no. 

 

We need to find out if anyone is going to use our concession stand during the fair, we pay $700 to rent it during this week.  Last year Express and Mas Fukushima rented it.  Steve Martin will call them to see if they want to rent it this year.  Hospital is possibly interested in renting it.

 

Fundraising/Sponsorship-Dan Appel presented no updates.

 

Ice- Terry Thompson presented that most teams are done for the season.  We hit our 600 hour ice limit earlier to receive the cheaper ice rate we started earlier and teams having 6am practices.  Thank Steve he was very good to work with.  We will check into the possibility of receiving a third price break.  Pond Hockey was a money maker.  After Districts are done if you want to be in a tourney and your out of ice you won’t get any more they need to budget their ice.

 

Equipment-Steve Cochran presented that equipment is good.

 


 

Coaches Committee- Lisa Cochran presented that the coaches contracts went out and 75% are back.  Doug Voss has ideas for next year and is interested in being the coordinator for both girls and boys.  Update development and have coaches submit applications.

 

Registration-Gwen Lysne had nothing new to present.

 

Tournaments-Lisa Cochran presented that we will have a meeting after season to start planning next year.  We need to remember to check books thoroughly at every tournament. 

 

Communication/Publicity Julee Elsted presented that the final clothing order had been picked up and money turned in Thursday.  Any new idea for next season are welcome.  We are working on getting more internet sign-up for March and for the tournaments next seasons.  The date has been set for banquet it is Monday April 9th.  Try to get on Owatonna today show one week before sign-up.

 

Park and Rec- Deb Mandt presented that is was a good season.  150 Wild tickets were sold and 14 kids are skating at the game.  They handed our medals for the Jamboree to levels 2-3-4 this Sunday.  Next year maybe OYHA coaches could take turns helping with Park and Rec.  Recommend that adult out on the ice with park and rec wear helmets like OYHA.

 

Lisa Cochran make a motion to accept all committee reports.  Steve Cochran seconded.  Approved

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

Board Nominations-President Lisa Cochran-Vice President Jay Staska-Secretary Nikki Gieseke- we will vote on nominations next month.

 

Banquet-Greg Johnson presented that the banquet will be Monday April 9th and Scott K will help.  Julee Elstad and Jay Staska will co-chair the event.  Hyvee will be catering the food and the menu and price will be the same as last year.  Erik Fink Southern MN Express Asst. Coach and David Palmquist South St Paul Girls Varsity Coach will be the speakers.  Tony S. will MC the event.  We need help either Sunday or Monday afternoon with set-up.

 

SKATE Program- Nikki Gieseke did a good job organizing this project and getting kids signed up.  She had 48 kids sign up and the grand prize is 4 Wild tickets.

 

Summer Camp-Greg Johnson presented that last year will supported two different camp by paying ice time it came out to $100 per kid. 

 

Greg Johnson make a motion to give voucher towards an Owatonna camp only-=$100 Peewee, U12, Bantams and U14, $60 Squirt and U10, and $40 Termites and Mites.  Lisa Cochran seconded.  Approved.

 


 

On March 8th we had a special meeting to discuss funding for Summer Camps and we made an amendment.

 

Jay Staska made a motion to honor statement on voucher to give termites and mites $40 discount disregard statement previous year in OYHA and to include kids ages 5-8.  Lisa Cochran seconded.

 

Motion did not pass.

 

Shawn Pfieffer made a motion to support voucher system for any boy/girl that played OYHA or Park and Rec hockey last year.  Greg Johnson seconded.  Approved
